Sorry Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, but you’ll have to wait your turn as Phil Davis has now been installed as Forrest Griffin’s new opponent for UFC 155 on December 29th.
Lil Nog had pleaded with Dana White to give him the opportunity to fight the former light-heavyweight champion after Griffin’s original opponent Chael Sonnen was switched to a coaching role on TUF 17 opposite Jon Jones.
A day earlier White had alluded that he had someone in mind for the co-main event fight, but it turns out it wasn’t the Brazilian, but Davis who’s coming off a second round submission win over Wagner Prado at last weekend’s UFC 153 event in Brazil.
Personally I liked the sound of Griffin Vs Lil Nog better stylistically, but this is still a solid, meaningful match-up that’s worthy of the co-main event role on the end of year card.
