The UFC will return to Japan for ‘UFC On Fuel TV 8’ on March 2nd and a lightweight fight between Diego Sanchez and Takanori Gomi is apparently in the works for it.
That’s the word according to Sanchez who will be making his return to the 155lb division after his latest stint at 170lbs in which he had something of a mixed spell, notching up wins over Martin Kampmann and Paulo Thiago and suffering losses to John Hathaway and Jake Ellenberger.
Now he returns to the lightweight division for the first time since losing convincingly to BJ Penn in a title fight back in December of 2009.
In Gomi he’ll face a fighter who’s rebounded from a less-than-impressive 1-3 start to his time in the UFC to produce two wins on the trot against Eiji Mitsuoka and Mac Danzig.
While nothing’s official yet it’s likely that this fight will have a prominent spot on the Japanese event’s fight card, and given that it’s a Fuel TV show it may even headline it.
