Out of the blue, British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury has come out of the woodwork and attempted to goad the UFC’s new heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez into fighting him.
Fury sent out a flurry of Twitter messages to Velasquez yesterday which have so far failed to muster a response from the UFC champ.
“If the klitchkos r 2 much of pussies to fight me then I’ll go & fight the MMA heavyweight champ at least he is game. Wouldn’t last 2 rounds!”

Born and raised in the Irish travelling community, the big-mouthed Brit is certainly an imposing specimen standing 6ft 9″ tall with an 85″ reach. He also holds a perfect 20-0 pro record and is the current Irish heavyweight champion.
Having said all that, if he was foolish enough to step into the Octagon with Velasquez then there’s no doubt he’d be airmailed onto the mat in about 3.5 seconds and given a humiliating beatdown.
Realistically though there’s next to no chance of this fight actually happening. James Toney did manage to talk his way into just such a fight with Randy Couture with predictable consequences, but that was a one-off and the UFC generally tries to shy away from ‘freak show’ style fights.
Truth be told the UFC have bigger fish to fry at this moment in time anyway with Alistair Overeem likely to be next up for Velasquez, while a rubber match with Junior Dos Santos is almost inevitable at some stage in the future.
