Cris ‘Cyborg’ Santos appears to be heading out the UFC’s exit door before she’s even had a chance to fight in the Octagon, but the promotion has now confirmed the signing of two other significant fighters for their woman’s 135lb division.
First up former olympic wrestling silver medalist Sara McMann has joined the promotion. After her decorated wrestling career, 32 year-old McMann has since made an immediate impression in woman’s MMA, notching up a perfect 6-0 record so far fighting for the likes of Invicta FC, Titan FC and ProElite.
Meanwhile, Alexis Davis has also joined the UFC. The 28 year-old has recently been plying her trade over at Strikeforce and Invicta FC and is 5-1 in her past six fights, with her only loss coming by majority decision to former Strikeforce champion Sarah Kaufman.
With ‘Cyborg’ looking like she might be out of the picture, at least for the time being, fighters like McMann and Davis now have a real chance to be in the title hunt sooner rather than later in the UFC.
Hopefully there’s more signings to come though as I’d still very much like to see both Marloes Coenen and Sarah Kaufman added to strengthen the level of competition in the fledgling division.
