Mark Hunt’s bad a much better run in the UFC than anyone had expected, but all good things must come to an end, and so was the case for ‘The Super Samoan’ on Saturday night against Junior Dos Santos.
Hunt withstood a number of huge blows from the former heavyweight champion during the fight, but with less than a minute to go in the final round even his granite chin couldn’t cope with a spinning heel kick that floored him and lead to the KO.
Afterwards Hunt revealed that he’d injured himself early in the fight, but also admitted that JDS was just the better man on the night.
“Thanks for the support. Apologies about the result,” Hunt stated on Twitter. “Junior was too slick for me. Got a broken toe first round and had no movement, but like I said before, if I am going out I am out on my back. Thanks again. One love.”
Despite his hard-headed reputation this actually wasn’t the first time Hunt’s been KO’d in MMA competition – he ran straight into a fight-ending barrage of punches from Melvin Manhoef back in 2008, while earlier that same year fighting in the K-1 Grand-Prix he was also stopped by a spinning back kick against Semmy Schilt – though on that occasion it was his mid-section that took the brunt of the damage resulting in a TKO.
