Antonio Rogerio Nogueira Out Of UFC 161 Fight With ‘Shogun’ Rua Due To Injury

Less than two weeks out from UFC 161 the card has taken another hit as word emerges that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has pulled out of the event due to an injury.

‘Lil Nog’ was set to fight Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua in the co-main event, but is reported to have been suffering back pain during training resulting from a herniated disc and due to the location of it he’ll be unable to fight at the event in Winnepeg, Canada.

It’s believed that the UFC are now hunting for a potential replacement for Nogueira to fight ‘Shogun’ at short notice.

This is the second major call-off for this event with the original interim bantamweight title fight between Renan Barao and Eddie Wineland also having been canceled due to injury recently, leaving Dan Henderson Vs Rashad Evans as the new main event.

The UFC will no doubt be thankful that they put together a card with strength in depth for this event, but even so it can only withstand so many hits and so hopefully an opponent can be found for ‘Shogun’.

If not then they’ll more than likely look to move Jake Shields Vs Tyron Woodley up to the main card to make up the numbers.
