Bellator have swooped to sign another recently departed UFC Fighter, Cheick Kongo, hot on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that they had acquired Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson.
Kongo’s UFC contract came to an end after a KO loss to Roy Nelson back in April, his second loss in his last three fights. However it’s been reported that he was offered a new deal by the UFC prior to the Nelson fight, but he turned it down as he was looking for a better offer. The UFC refused and that paved the way for his eventual move to Bellator.
It’s another solid move by the promotion as Kongo is a well established fighter and will bring new life to their rather thin heavyweight roster. However, as with ‘Rampage’ the catch here is that they may be securing his services when he’s past his prime.
That being said, a fresh start could be just what he needs and he may find the going a little easier over at Bellator after having faced a consistent selection of high level opposition during his time in the UFC.
