In the fight game, it only really matters what you did in your last fight. Just ask Anderson Silva about that and it will be easy to see that every time you step inside the cage could be for the last time. For fighters around the world, a loss is the worst thing that can happen and could derail chances of making a bigger paycheck as a champion. In the world of Bellator Fighting Championships, the fight game has led to them bringing in some of the biggest free agent names in the sport including Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
For Lawal, a former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion, his performance inside the Bellator cage hasn’t gone the way most people expected. He made quick work of Przemyslaw Mysiala in his debut fight with the promotion, but lost via first round KO to Emanuel Newton. He rebounded in his last fight by knocking out Seth Petruzzelli, who is mostly known for getting the 14 second TKO win against Kimbo Slice.
When Lawal steps into the Bellator cage on Wednesday night against Jacob Noe, it will be for the Bellator Summer Series Light Heavyweight tournament title. With a win against the man that retired Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Lawal will get a chance to compete for the light heavyweight title currently held by Attila Vegh.
A loss by Lawal would be the absolute worst case scenario for King Mo and for Bellator. They were hoping to have Lawal come into the promotion and dominate the competition. Bellator wanted Lawal to be the guy they branded the company after and be the man who led their attempt to compete on the biggest stage of them all, with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Unless he gets a win tomorrow night, that just simply won’t happen.
