The real reason that UFC superstar Georges St.Pierre is looking to take an extended break from the sport remains a mystery today after several rumors regarding his personal issues were denied.
On Monday, gossip site TMZ claimed that it was a combination of his father’s ill-health and an unwanted pregnancy that were behind his decision to take time out, but after speaking to him personally, UFC President Dana White says that’s not true.
White told the L.A Times that the long-time welterweight champion is, “denying those rumors that TMZ is reporting about those two things.”
One of GSP’s sister’s had earlier told La Presse in Canada that their 60 year-old father was not dying and was, “doing very well.”
Another rumor that’s been doing the rounds is that the real reason st.Pierre has admitted to not being able to sleep at night is due to an on-going legal wrangle with his former manager Shari Spencer who was reported to have a lawsuit worth millions of dollars against him.
Spencer herself took to Twitter yesterday to deny the rumor.
“@GeorgesStPierre may have 99 problems, but I ain’t one #learntofactcheck,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, GSP’s current manager, Firas Zahabi says that his fighter’s health is fine, ruling that out as an issue, but isn’t giving away too much beyond that, simply saying that, “over time [GSP’s] mind’s going to settle and he’ll sort out his emotions and figure things out.”
Unfortunately for GSP, the rumormill is unlikely to slow down, and in hindsight, for someone who’s done such a good job of keeping his private life to himself over the years, telling everyone that he had a personal issue that he didn’t want to share is something he’ll now be regretting as it’s only intensified the media interest surrounding him.
For someone who’s always been open and honest about his dislike for having to deal with the media that’s far from ideal and it’s safe to assume that whatever the real reason is for his personal problems, the event’s over the course of the past few days won’t have him sleeping any easier at night.
