Diego Sanchez’s next fight will be against former TUF fighter Myles Jury at UFC 171 in Texas on March 15th.
There had been a lot of talk about a potential fight between Sanchez and Conor McGregor, but with Sanchez eager to fight and the Irishman still undergoing rehab after knee surgery, that’s a showdown that’ll have to be put on the backburner for now.
Sanchez is coming of a nominee for ‘fight of the year’ against Gilbert Melendez, a fight which he ultimately lost by decision. That was Sanchez’s second fight back down at lightweight after a 3-2 stint at welterweight, and he’ll stay at 155lbs for this upcoming match-up.
A cast member on TUF 15, Jury lost on the show, but is undefeated as a professional with a perfect 13-0 record, including four victories inside the Octagon so far which has earned him undoubtedly the toughest and most high profile fight of his career.
Jury probably isn’t as a big a name opponent as Sanchez would have been hoping for, but it gives him a reasonable chance of getting back in the win column, though he certainly can’t take Jury for granted.
Along with this fight announcement it’s also been revealed that the 31 year-old Sanchez has signed a new eight-fight extension to his contract with the UFC, so despite all the wars he’s been in over the years it appears he’s got no intention of hanging up his gloves any time soon.
UFC 171 will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title fight featuring current champion Jon Jones and Glover Teixeira, while Hector Lombard Vs Jake Shields is another high profile bout that’s been announced for the PPV show in Dallas.
