Dan Henderson has confirmed he’s signed a new six fight deal with the UFC.
“If you haven’t heard the news yet, as of today I will not be fighting in the UFC…but come March 23 I will be! Hendo vs Shogun II Ufc Fight Night 38,” Henderson wrote on Facebook.
Rumors of a rematch between the two fighters had emerged earlier in the week, but at that stage had appeared to be pending ‘Hendo’ signing a new deal, so now it appears to be official.
Henderson had suggested last week during an appearance on The MMA Hour show that there was a potential stumbling block regarding a new deal in that the UFC were offering him more than 50% less than his previous $250,000 salary.
At this stage there’s no indication of whether that did end up being the deal they agreed on, but the former Strikeforce light-heavyweight champion wasn’t in a strong bargaining position given that he had lost his last three fights in a row and is now 43 years old.
Nevertheless, he’s still more than worthy of a spot on the UFC’s roster and should have a few big fights left in him, so it’s good to see that a deal has now been struck.
Henderson Vs ‘Shogun’ II will headline the UFC Fight Night 38 card in Brazil on March 23rd, and hopefully it’ll provide a repeat of the all-out action we saw in their ‘Fight Of The Year’ slug-fest back in 2011 which ‘Hendo’ ended up winning by unanimous decision.
