A middleweight fight between Tim Kennedy and Yoel Romero has been scheduled for UFC 178 in Las Vegas on September 27th.
A former two-time Strikeforce title challenger, Kennedy’s been making his impression felt in the UFC over the course of the past year with three wins on the trot, including a decision win over Michael Bisping back in April that’s left right him in the thick of the middleweight rankings at No.5.
Romero will be another big obstacle for him to overcome though, both literally and figuratively, with the former freestyle wrestling Olympic silver medalist being a perfect 4-0 in the UFC so far including a decision win over Brad Tavares last time out.
Despite his wins Romero is only ranked No.11 at the moment, but a win over Kennedy would undoubtedly give him a major boost up the ladder.
It’s an intriguing match-up and is a good addition to the UFC 178 main card which is currently set to be headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson.
As we announced earlier today, Dominick Cruz Vs Takeya Mizugaki is also going to be on that show, so it’s good to see the UFC compiling a worthy card here rather than just relying on the drawing power of the eagerly awaited main event.
