A heavyweight encounter between Travis Browne and Brendan Schaub has been lined up for UFC 181 on December 6th.
Browne picked up a unanimous decision loss last time out in a title eliminator fight with Fabricio Werdum which ended an impressive three fight winning streak in which he ended each opponent’s night by KO.
Schaub had been heading into his last fight with back-to-back victories, but then dropped a controversial split decision to Andrei Arlovski in a lackluster performance at UFC 174 in June.
Truth be told this seems like a somewhat curious bit of matchmaking from the UFC as Browne is currently ranked No.3 in the division while Schaub doesn’t even feature on the overall top 15 at this moment in time.
A win over Browne isn’t going to do a whole lot for his chances of getting back into title contention, while Schaub has looked gun-shy of late, perhaps because he’s shown signs of a suspect chin, so this looks to be a tough fight for him as he looks to get back to winning ways.
Browne Vs Schaub joins an already impressive looking UFC 181 fight card that’ll feature a middleweight title fight between Chris Weidman and Vitor Belfort while lightweight champion Anthony Pettis faces his rival TUF 20 coach and former Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez in the co-main event.
