An intriguing welterweight match-up between talented strikers Thiago Alves and Jordan Mein has been announced for UFC 183 on January 31st in Las Vegas.
After two years out of the sport due to injuries, former title contender Alves finally returned to the Octagon in April and looked to be in good form in a ‘Fight Of The Night’ performance against Seth Baczynski which ended in a unanimous decision victory.
Alves will be hoping that’s the start of a fresh new chapter in his career after having slumped to just two wins in six fights prior to that, a far cry from the seven fight winning streak that had earned him a title shot against Georges St.Pierre back in 2009.
In Mein he faces a fighter who’s been establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with in the division, with a 3-1 record to date including a 72 second TKO victory over UFC veteran Mike Pyle last time out in August which earned him a spot on the division’s official top 15 rankings list at No.13.
Alves and Mein find themselves on what’s likely to be one of the biggest UFC events in some time at UFC 183 as it’s headlined by the blockbuster middleweight showdown between Anderson Silva and Nick Diaz.
