Dominick Cruz has suffered his very own ‘Nightmare Before Christmas’ after suffering yet another ACL injury that will again leave him out of action for an indefinite period of time.
Cruz revealed the heart-breaking news on Facebook, revealing that this time the damage came to his supposedly ‘good’ knee.
“It is with great sadness to report I have experienced another ACL injury,” Cruz wrote. “This time it’s in the right knee, opposite side of my first and second ACL injuries. Leading up to my last fight in September and after, I have practiced a very careful and methodical training and diet regime to keep my body healthy. Unfortunately, this is beyond my understanding and control.
“I don’t have a timetable for my return but trust and know I will pour my heart and soul into returning to the Octagon. I want to thank the UFC, my fans and my sponsors ahead of time for your support and prayers. I appreciate you more than you could understand.”
Cruz is only three months removed from his long awaited comeback fight after a three year absence from the Octagon due to his persistent, career-threatening knee problems.
With that in mind ‘The Dominator’s’ return had been astonishing – showing no sign of ring-rust as he took just 61 seconds to defeat veteran campaigner Takeya Mizugaki by knockout.
That performance gave everyone hope that the former WEC and UFC bantamweight champion could defy the odds and return to his rightful place among the sport’s elite competitors.
As a result he was fast-tracked to No.2 on the 135lb rankings and given the title shot he craved against TJ Dillashaw.
Sadly, it wasn’t to be and now Cruz faces another long layoff and battle to return to full fitness.
