A rematch between Urijah Faber and Raphael Assuncao is set to headline UFC Fight Night 62 in Brazil on March 21st.
Faber had initially been resistant to taking the match-up, stating a lack of interest in fighting the Brazilian again after having previously defeated him as a featherweight by third round submission during their time in the WEC organization.
However, that was five years ago and Assuncao has since become a major force to be reckoned with in the UFC’s bantamweight division, putting together a seven fight winning streak that includes becoming the last man to defeat current champion TJ Dillashaw via a controversial split decision ruling.
Faber is currently on a two fight winning streak after another unsuccessful attempt to win the bantamweight title against Renan Barao last year.
The leaves him placed No.3 in the divisional rankings, and with Assuncao just one spot below him it’s hard to deny the fact that this is a good time for the two fighters to meet again.
Joining them on the UFC Fight Night 62 card will be a co-main event featuring Josh Thomson Vs Gilbert Burns.
Thomson had been within touching distance of a title shot not so long ago, but a two-fight slump since then, albeit both by split decision, has seen him slide to No.7 on the lightweight rankings.
Burns is currently undefeated in nine fights, with two of those victories having come during his stint in the UFC so far, but this is a big step up in competition for the 28 year-old.
