Carlos Condit Vs Thiago Alves is rumored to be going down at UFC Fight Night 67 on May 30th.
Condit will be returning following a year long lay-off after he suffered a torn ACL and partially torn meniscus that required surgery during a takedown in the second round of his fight with Tyron Woodley at UFC 171.
Defeat that night left him with just one win in his last four fights, though his losses had all come against top flight competition including George St.Pierre while he was still champion and Johny Hendricks who earned a title shot by getting the better of him by unanimous decision.
Despite his recent record and 12 months on the treatment table, ‘The Natural Born Killer’ is still considered one of the best welterweights around and that’s reflected in the fact that he’s still ranked at No.4 in the division.
Like Condit, Alves has also lost to GSP in a title fight before, though that was a long time ago, back in July of 2009 at UFC 100 to be precise.
Since then Alves has had an unsettled time in the promotion, producing an indifferent 4-3 record and spending a lot of time on the sidelines with injuries.
He is currently enjoying something of a return to form though with back-to-back wins including a TKO of Jordan Mein last time out at UFC 183 back in January and has risen back into the welterweight rankings at No.13.
Though this match-up doesn’t make a whole lot of sense from a rankings perspective, it’s a good fight and it will more than likely end up serving as UFC Fight Night 67’s main event, though it’s yet to be officially confirmed at this stage and even the location for the event is still to be announced at this time.
