TUF season 1 veteran Josh Koscheck suffered his fifth loss in a row on Saturday night against Erick Silva at UFC Fight Night 62 in Brazil, but the 37 year-old isn’t ready to commit to hanging up his gloves just yet.
“I can’t make that decision right now,” Koscheck said of retirement at the event’s post-fight press conference. “I’ll go home and talk to the old lady and we’ll see what happens.”
“I’ve got a good long career since The Ultimate Fighter 1 and it’s been a fun ride,” Koscheck said. “This sport is changing and these guys are getting better. These young guys are just getting tougher. I feel like my skills are there, I just need to put it together.”
So, it sounds like Koscheck is trying to leave the door open for further fights in the UFC, but Dana White has indicated he believes it’s time for him to call time on his career.
“I have a soft spot for the season one guys,” White admitted on the FOX Sports 1 post-fight show. “Koscheck doesn’t want to retire. He wants to talk in a couple days. I’m gonna try to push him in that direction.”
Saturday’s fight was the last of Koscheck’s current contract, so it’ll take some convincing to get the UFC to sign up to a new deal given his current record, but you never know what might happen.
Judging by his recent performances Koscheck would be wise to retire though as it’s been very noticeable in the last few years that he gets rocked a lot easier now than he used to, while the fact that he’s been stopped inside the first round in three of his five fights during his losing streak and has been showing vulnerabilities to being finished by both strikes and submissions doesn’t bode well either.
