A lightweight bout between the in-form Tony Ferguson and Josh Thomson has been announced for UFC Fight Night 72 in San Diego, California on July 15th.
A former TUF winner, Ferguson is one of the 155lb division’s most in-form fighters at this moment in time with five victories in a row under his belt, taking out the likes of Danny Castillo, Abel Trujillo and Gleison Tibau along the way.
Only one of those five wins went the distance and with just one loss in nine Octagon outings overall, the No.13 ranked Ferguson is making a strong case for a top 10 spot.
Not so long ago Josh Thomson was being lined up for a UFC title shot, but that fell through and since then he’s dropped two losses in a row, though both came by split decision against Ben Henderson and Bobby Green.
The 36 year-old has now slid to No.9 on the rankings and so it’s important that he now halts Ferguson’s momentum if he wants to stay amongst the division’s elite.
Ferguson Vs Thomson is currently the only fight booked for UFC Fight Night 72 and it’s unclear at this stage whether it will serve as the evening’s main event or not.
