Chris Camozzi has stepped in as a late replacement to fight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza this Saturday night at UFC On FOX 15 in New Jersey after Yoel Romero pulled out injured, but not everyone’s thrilled about the match-up.
This is mainly down to the fact that Camozzi already fought the Brazilian a couple of years ago and was easily defeated by submission in the first round. Camozzi then went on to lose a further three fights in a row before being cut from the promotion in September of last year.
So why is Camozzi getting a second chance now? UFC president Dana White explained, rather bluntly, to one fan on Twitter the reason.
“Hey dummy, u know how many people wanna fight Jacare on 6 days notice? 1!!!!” White wrote.
If you don’t ask, you don’t get and it seems that Camozzi was the only one who offered to step up to the plate against the current No.1 contender in the middleweight division, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu specialist who’s on a seven fight unbeaten run and tapped out Gegard Mousasi in his last Octagon outing.
“I love fighting,” Camozzi said on his own Twitter page. “It’s in my blood. Thank you everyone for the kind words. If you don’t like, ask you fav fighter why they didn’t ask.”
