Neil Magny had to battle through adversity at UFC Fight Night 66 in Manila after being rocked by Hyun Gyu Lim in the opening round, but to his credit he rebounded strongly and took the fight to his opponent in the second round which led to a TKO stoppage via ground and pound.
Round One:
Magny feeding out the jab to start as Lim takes the center of the Octagon. Lim with an overhand that misses and gets caught with a counter.
Brief flurry from Lim. Magny with a kick. Lim backs Magny up against the cage and seems to hurt him with a punch. Magny moves away but he looks unsteady and Lim starts firing away as with his opponent backed up against the cage again.
Magny again gets away, but is still wobbly and almost immediately is pinned to the fence again as Lim blasts away at him. However, Magny finally is able to lock up with his opponent and spin him around.
Working from the clinch Magny takes full advantage of the opportunity to take a breather and clear his head.
Eventually Magny looks to get him down, but ends up high on Lim’s back and when he comes off it’s Lim who gets on top. Magny does a great job of sweeping on top though, but Lim then threatens with an armbar attempt.
Magny gets free of that and transitions between Lim’s back and mount as this battle really begins to ebb and flow. Lim gets back to his feet and Magny ends the round with a flurry of punches and knees to show he’s right back in this fight.
Round Two:
Magny put together a nice combination ending in a kick to start the second round. Magny taking the center of the cage early in this round and looks confident, moving in to the clinch and then dumping Lim to the mat.
Magny really getting to work on the ground, getting mount almost immediately and before long he has Lim’s back. He starts landing repeated left hands and the ref warns Lim to keep moving. He does so for now, but Magny readjusts his position and starts landing more ground and pound.
Lim going nowhere here and so the ref decides that’s enough – Magny gets the TKO victory to extend his unbeaten run to seven fights.
