Less than two weeks out from UFC Fight Night 74 in Canada, Rick Story has been forced to pull out of his co-main event fight with Erick Silva due to an injury he suffered during training.
As a result, Neil Magny will now step in on short notice to fight Silva and keep the main card intact.
That’s potentially a risky move for Magny as he’s only 10 days removed from a second round submission loss to Demian Maia at UFC 190, a defeat which snapped his impressive seven fight unbeaten stretch in the UFC’s Octagon.
Magny was essentially outgrappled by BJJ ace Maia for the majority of their fight, but likely didn’t take too much damage in the process, so clearly he feels he’s still fit to fight again in relatively short order, and no doubt he’s eager just to get back in and attempt to get back in the win column as quickly as possible.
That’ll be far easier said than done against Silva though, with the dynamic Brazilian being high on confidence at the moment after back-to-back first round submission victories against Mike Rhodes and Josh Koscheck.
UFC Fight night 74 takes place in Saskatoon and is set to be headlined by another exciting match-up between Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira.
