If you’re a fan of good-old fashioned slugfests then you’ll no doubt fondly remember the heavyweight toe-to-toe war that was Antonio Silva Vs Mark Hunt at UFC Fight Night 33 in Australia in 2013.
The brutal five round battle ended in a majority draw decision was in the running for ‘Fight of The Year’ honors and had Dana White declaring as “the sickest HW fight ever,” though it was later marred by the news that Silva had tested positive for elevated levels of testosterone.
Now, almost two years later the two heavy-hitters are set to do it all over again down under with Silva Vs Hunt II having been booked for UFC 193 in Melbourne, Australia on November 15th.
Since their first encounter both of these veteran campaigners have experienced mixed fortunes in the UFC.
The fight seemed to take it’s toll on ‘Bigfoot’ who would go on to lose his next two bouts by first round knockout, though he has now rebounded with a second round TKO of Soa Palelei to show that he’s still a threat.
Meanwhile, Hunt went on to KO Roy Nelson which earned him a late replacement interim title shot against Fabricio Werdum, but he wasn’t able to get his hands on the belt, losing out by second round TKO and has since also suffered a five round beating at the hands of Stipe Miocic.
So, there’s definitely a big question mark regarding whether these two heavyweights chins could withstand another five rounds of punishment, but it’ll certainly be interesting to find out.
UFC 193 is set to be headlined by a welterweight title fight between Robbie Lawler and Carlos Condit. No other fights have been announced for the show, so expect Silva Vs Hunt to feature promenently, more than likely in the co-main event slot.
