During a UFC Fight Night Q&A session on Friday, Rory MacDonald appeared to give the strongest hint yet that Georges St Pierre is looking to return to the UFC.
MacDonald was asked by a fan whether he would remain at welterweight if his friend and Tri-Star gym training partner returned to fighting and his answer brought about some excited chatter in the room.
“From what we’ve talked about, he’s not coming back for the belt,” MacDonald said. “He’s coming back for the odd fight I think that interests him.”
Realizing what he’d just said MacDonald then beat a hasty retreat from his comment.
“If… If he comes back…. Okay, keep it in your pants,” MacDonald chuckled. “I don’t know if he’s coming back. But as far as I know, if he does I think he’s more interested in super-fights and whatnot.”
GSP announced his decision to take time out from the sport in December of 2013, and since then he’s never confirmed whether he will ever return to the Octagon, though in an interview earlier this month he admitted that, “I’m starting to get the feeling, more and more, to come back.”
Earlier in the year UFC President Dana White had essentially written off the former welterweight champon, saying, “I don’t see him ever coming back.”
In this instance however, there’s no doubt that he’d be delighted to be proven wrong!
