It seems Bethe Correia’s war of words has worked as Miesha Tate has now stated that she’d be willing to accept a fight with the outspoken Brazilian.
Correia had initially questioned why Tate thought she was entitled to another title shot, stating that her recent wins were unconvincing. Then just a few days ago she turned up the heat even more by suggesting that if Tate wanted to retire then she’d be more than willing to help her on her way.
“If they want me to go in there and retire Miesha, I will do my best to show the world this rookie has some knockout power and retire her,” Correia told MMAfighting.com. “I will make your wish come true, Miesha. I can do this for you.”
That appears to have been the final straw for Tate who up until this point had been largely dismissive of the idea, but now sees the appeal of being locked in a cage with her rival for 15 minutes.
“If that’s the fight that she wants, I’d be willing to step in there and teach her a lesson,” Tate stated on the Inside MMA show on AXS TV. “Obviously, she needs a more brutal beatdown than Ronda gave her and I’d be happy to do that.”
Tate is currently on a four-fight winning streak in the 135lb weight class, defeating a number of other leading contenders such as Sara McMann, Jessica Eye and Liz Carmouche along the way, while Correia had put together three wins in a row in the Octagon against the likes of Julie Kedzie, Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler before her 34 second KO defeat at the hands of Ronda Rousey in August.
