Following last night’s UFC On FOX 17 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was an exciting, hard fought stand-up battle between Nate Diaz and Michael Johnson. The two showed a willingness to engage throughout the entire 15 minute fight and both men tested the others chin on multiple occasions, but it was Diaz who’s superior reach and accuracy was the difference between them en-route to a unanimous decision victory.
Meanwhile, lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos deservedly claimed a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after taking just 66 seconds to demolish Donald Cerrone in the main event. A hard knee to the body was the catalyst for the finish, being quickly followed a kick to the mid-section and then a series of hard, accurate strikes to the head as ‘Cowboy’ backed up against the cage in defensive mode. He managed to move away, but ended up on the mat with Dos Anjos hammering home ground and pound for the TKO finish.
Also picking up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was Vincente Luque who submitted Hayder Hassan in the first round of their fight in the prelims, locking up an anaconda choke which put his opponent to sleep.
