It was recently announced that UFC fighter Gleison Tibau had tested positive for EPO during an out-of-competition drug test some time prior to UFC Fight Night 77 last month, but it’s now emerged that he failed again at a later date.
According to the U.S Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), the 32 year-old also tested positive for EPO during an in-competition test immediately after the UFC Fight Night 77 event which saw him defeat Abel Trujillo with a first round rear-naked choke.
Tibau is currently one of the longest serving fighters on the UFC’s roster with 26 fights in the Octagon. His win over Trujillo had been the Brazilian’s 17th career win in the UFC, the third highest of all time alongside Michael Bisping, but due to his failed drug tests it’s now certain that the fight will be amended to a ‘no contest’ ruling.
In addition, due to the UFC’s recently introduced strict anti-doping drug policy, Tibau is now facing a potential two year ban from the sport.
For the record, when word of his first positive drug test emerged, Tibau wrote a statement denying that he had intentionally taken any performance enhancing drug and vowed to consult with his team to find out where he had made a mistake and attempt to defend himself at his subsequent trial.
