A heavyweight clash between Mark Hunt and Frank Mir has been announced as the main event for UFC Fight Night 84 in Brisbane, Australia on March 20th.
This will be Hunt’s third fight in a row down under, with his last taking place in the Etihad stadium in Melbourne back in November at UFC 193 where he got back to winning ways with a first round TKO stoppage against Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.
That ended a two-fight losing slump for the 41 year-old ‘Super Samoan’ which had seen him lose by TKO to Fabricio Werdum in an interim title fight and then suffer another TKO defeat at the hands of Stipe Miocic.
Mir’s recent form is essentially a reverse of Hunt’s fortunes with his back-to-back knockout wins against the aforementioned Silva and Todd Duffee being followed up by a decision loss to Andrei Arlovski last time out at UFC 191 in September.
Heading into this fight these two heavyweight veterans still hold down top 10 spots in the UFC’s divisional rankings, but only just with Hunt at No.9 while Mir is one spot behind at No.10.
Hunt Vs Mir is the only bout announced so far for UFC Fight Night 84 which will air live on FOX Sports 1.
