Shogun Out; Rashad Evans Vs Glover Teixeira Now Set For UFC On FOX 19

Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua has been removed from his fight with Rashad Evans at UFC On FOX 19 on April 16th after he suffered a knee injury in training.

According to ‘Shogun’s’ coach Rafael Cordeiro he had a reoccuance of an old knee injury during training and had informed the UFC about it, but had indicated that he still wanted to fight Evans. However, the UFC decided it was best to pull him from the card.

In his place the UFC have managed to sign up Glover Teixeira to fight Evans in the co-main event of the show in Tampa.

Teixeira is coming off back-to-back wins inside the Octagon, having submitted Ovince St. Preux and TKO’d Patrick Cummins in his two UFC outings in 2015.

Meanwhile, former champion Evans is looking to get back in the win column after a unanimous decision loss to Ryan Bader at UFC 192 last October.

That had been Evans first fight back after a two year layoff due to knee surgeries, so he’ll be hoping for a stronger showing this time around.

UFC On FOX 19 is set to be headlined by a lightweight encounter between two leading contenders in the division, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson, while Lyoto Machida Vs Dan Henderson and Rose Namajunas Vs Tecia Torres rounds off the four-fight main card.
