Newly crowned woman’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate is apparently not just looking to play it safe now that she’s on top of the heap, and has re-fueled talk of a potential super-fight with current Invicta FC featherweight champion Cris ‘Cyborg’.
In the past the talk was always of a Ronda Rousey Vs Cris ‘Cyborg’ fight, but while she was champion ‘Rowdy’ refused to move up in weight to fight her rival, but Tate appears to be willing to do so.
“I’ve been hearing rumors or something that supposedly [Cyborg’s’] coming to the UFC,” Tate said in a fan Q&A session in Australia ahead of UFC Fight Night 85. “But I’ve been hearing it for such a long time, I just don’t really know and I haven’t had that confirmed.. But I am open to that fight.
“Maybe doing it at a catchweight at 140. You know, I have nothing but respect for ‘Cyborg.’ She freaking eats girls for breakfast. She’s amazing. And it’s like, what do I have to lose in that fight? I go out there and give it everything I have, and if I’m able to take out Goliath, then I am. Yeah, I would love to step in there with someone of her caliber.”
Whatever happens Tate says that she doesn’t just want to sit around and wait for a trilogy fight with Rousey, which might not take place until October or November.
“I think it’s a long time to wait.” Tate told Submission Radio. “Ideally, I think I’d like to fight one more time before [her return]. I know that there’s a lot of really top contenders, a lot of girls in the division, that are really chomping at the bit. I think I’ve been called out by probably everybody in the top six, if not potentially the top 10. So they’re all gunning for me, and they’re all dangerous, and they all have their different attributes to bring to the table, so I think my job as the champ is just to stay ready for whoever. I’m just going to stay in the gym, and I have to be able to beat every single one of them.”
