Earlier this month it was revealed that Kimbo Slice and Ken Shamrock had failed drug tests following their Bellator 149 fights back in February and the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has now officially announced that they both tested positive for steroids.
The two veterans urine tests revealed that they had each taken the illegal steroid Nandrolone, while Shamrock he also tested positive for Methadone which is commonly used to treat Heroin addicts.
Both fighters were discovered to have had elevated levels of testosterone-to-epitestosterone (T/E) ratios.
This is the first time that Kimbo has been caught using steroids, but Shamrock also popped for steroids back in 2009.
As things stand the two men now face one years suspensions and a $5,000 fine for their failed drug tests, though the TDLR are offering a settlement that would simply see their fight licenses revoked in addition to a $3,000 fine. That deal is only good until March 31st however, and requires the fighters to give their side of the story to the commission.
These two steroid tests will lead to further embarrassment for Bellator who’d come under criticism for ‘freak show’ fights that they stacked the front end of the Bellator 149 with, that included a main event between Shamrock and Royce Gracie who have a combined age of 101, in addition to the co-main event srap between former backyard brawlers, 42 year-old Slice and 38 year-old ‘Dada 5000’, aka Dhafir Harris.
The Kimbo Vs Dada 5000 fight turned out to be one of the worst fights of all time, and resulted in Harris being rushed to hospital with renal failure, with his heart believed to have stopped beating at one point.
