It’s official – Conor McGregor will rematch Nate Diaz in the main event of UFC 202 on August 20th!
After much speculation and several negotiations, the UFC finally announced the fight during this evening’s UFC 199 pay-per-view broadcast.
Diaz had foreshadowed the announcement earlier in the evening when he posted an instagram clip of him giving Dana White a ‘Stockton slap’, alongside the comment, “Getting deals done today #immagetmymoney #stocktonslapped #ufc @representltd #100.”
McGregor and Diaz first locked horns at UFC 196 back in March on short notice after the Irishman’s original opponent, Rafael dos Anjos was forced to pull out due to an injury.
Agreeing to fight Diaz at welterweight, McGregor would go on to suffer a second round submission loss to the Stockton native – his first defeat in the UFC.
McGregor has been pursuing the rematch ever since, and it was originally scheduled to go down in the main event of UFC 200 in July, but it was then scrapped after ‘The Notorious’ refused to take part in promotional events that the UFC had planned for the show.
After a series of tense negotiations the fight is finally back on however, and given all the hype that’s now surrounding it, UFC 202 is all set to be another huge success at the box office for the promotion, as well as being a very lucrative payday for both fighters.
