The UFC 202 fight card is filling up fast with the announcement of another two big fights for the Las Vegas show on August 20th.
First up, Carlos Condit has apparently cooled off on his talk of potentially retiring as he’s agreed to fight another of the welterweight division’s top contenders, the in-form Demian Maia.
Condit narrowly missed out on winning the 170lb title back in January at UFC 195 when he came out on the wrong end of a split decision against Robbie Lawler.
While he’s been continously competing at the highest level, Condit has only posted two wins in his last six fights, and he’s voiced concerns about the long-term effect continuing to fight could have on his health, so if he were to lose to Maia it could push him to hang up his gloves.
Maia on the other hand is producing some of the best form of his career at this moment in time and is enjoying a five fight winning streak that most recently saw him submit Matt Brown with a rear-naked choke.
The Brazilian grappler is now ranked No.3 in the division, so a win over the fifth placed Condit could be the key to unlock a welterweight title shot.
Meanwhile, more top 10 welterweight action is coming to UFC 202 in the shape of current Neil Magny (No.7) Vs Dong Hyun Kim (No.9).
Magny has been as active as anyone on the UFC roster over the past few years and compiled an extremely impressive 10-1 run in the process.
His only loss during that period came against the aforementioned Maia last year, and since then he’s racked up victories over Erick Silva, Kelvin Gastelum and Hector Lombard.
His opponent, Kim also has a solid CV with six wins in his last seven Octagon encounters, and heads into this bout with back-to-back wins over Josh Burkman and Dominic Waters.
UFC 202 now has a strong line-up that’s fronted by a blockbuster welterweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz, while Anthony Johnson Vs Glover Teixeira is among the other major bouts added so far this week.
