Bellator fighter Melvin Guillard’s troubled career has hit another major stumbling block with the news that he’s been suspended for one year due to a positive drug test following his knockout victory over David Rickets at Bellator 159 on July 22nd.
The substance that the 33 year-old Guillard was flagged for has not been revealed, but it’s believed that it wasn’t a performance enhancing drug.
If so, This is not the first time that ‘The Young Assassin’ has found himself in trouble for a non-PED, as he was previously suspended for nine months in 2007 for cocaine.
In addition to his new 12 month suspension, Guillard has also been hit with a $10,000 fine and had his victory amended to a no-contest ruling.
That will be a bitter pill to swallow as his KO win had been an all too rare glimmer of hope for Guillard at a time when he’d only emerged victorious in in one his previous four fights since leaving the UFC after a similar losing streak.
Meanwhile, his other troubles have included falling out with his previous promotion World Series Of Fighting, repeatedly switching training camps and continually failing to make weight for his fights, including coming in 2lbs over for his fight with Rickets.
