UFC On FOX 21 Bonus Awards

Following last night’s UFC On FOX 21 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.

Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main card opener, a hard fought rematch between two UFC veterans, Jim Miller and Joe Lauzon.  It was a closely contested battle from start to finish, with Miller edging the stand-up exhanges, while Lauzon enjoyed significant spells of control on the mat.  There could only be one winner though, and it was Miller who did just enough to earn the split decision nod to notch up his second win over Lauzon.

Main event star Demian Maia showed exactly why he’s one of, if not the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighters ever to compete in the sport of MMA by taking down and tapping out Carlos Condit with a guillotine choke less than two minutes in to the fight.  That earned him one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses, and with six wins in a row to his name, puts him in a strong position to demand a title shot.

The other ‘Performance Of The Night’ award was dished out to Paige VanZant who produced one of the most spectacular head kick KO finishes ever seen in the Octagon against Bec Rawlings.  ’12 Gauge’ had struggled to find a home for her flashy strikes in the opening round, but just 17 seconds into the following round she launched into a jumping switch kick that floored her opponent and led to the KO finish.
