Former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler is currently in need of a big fight, and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone has signaled that he’d be interested in facing the ‘Ruthless’ one.
UFC President Dana White told the media this past weekend that Lawler has been hounding him to get another fight lined up after his KO loss to Tyron Woodley at UFC 201 last month.
“Hey I know a guy #NYC #MSG @danawhite,” Cerrone wrote on Twitter afterwards.
Cerrone is coming off three highly impressive victories in a row at 170lbs, initially defeating Alex Oliveira by first round submission, before moving on to dominate Patrick Cote en-route to a third round TKO victory, and most recently dismantling Rick Story by second round TKO at UFC 202 a week ago.
That run has resulted in ‘Cowboy’ flying up the welterweight rankings to the No.7 spot, and would set the stage perfectly for what would be guaranteed fireworks if he was given the opportunity to fight Lawler.
Cerrone’s suggestion that the fight take place at UFC 205 in New York City on November 12th is also a good one, and while that would be unlikely to serve as the main event of the evening, it would definitely add real value to the pay-per-view main card for the historic event.
