Following last night’s UFC 203 event the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the crazy one round war between headliners Stipe Miocic and Alistair Overeem.
In the early stages of the fight Overeem seemed tentative, but then the Dutchman floored the champion with a straight left and threatented with a guillotine choke. Miocic then showed his championship grit as he not only escaped the submission, but immediately drove back to his feet and went on the offensive.
Miocic would then go on to hurt Overeem with flurries of strikes against the cage, and weathered more blows in return, before managing to take him down and blast away with ground and pound to deliver an impressive KO victory and retain his title.
Jessica Andrade earned one of two ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonuses after she ran through Joanne Calderwood, taking her to the mat early and often, leading to a first round guillotine choke submission finish that puts her in a strong footing in the woman’s strawweight division.
Yancy Medeiros also scooped up a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after making a successful welterweight debut against Sean Spencer, dropping him with a head kick in the second round and then finding a rear-naked choke submission on the mat.
