With Al Iaquinta having backed out of his intended bout with Thiago Alves at UFC 205 in New York City on November 12th, lightweight veteran Jim Miller has now stepped in to take his place.
The 33 year-old Miller is currently riding a two-fight winning streak in the division, notching up wins over fellow vetarans Takanori Gomi and Joe Lauzon over the summer period.
That will no doubt have come as somewhat of a relief for Miller given that he’d lost four of his previous five fights prior to that.
As for Alves, this will be his first undertaking at 155lbs, having made the decision to drop down from welterweight in an attempt to kickstart his own career.
Injury woes have hampered Alves career in recent years, having fought just three times in the past four years, and he’ll be returning to action at Madison Square Garden having spent 16 months out following his second round loss to Carlos Condit at UFC Fight Night 67 last year.
With Alves Vs Miller now booked, UFC 205 continues to take shape, with other fights so far confirmed including a welterweight title fight between Tyron Woodley and Stephen Thompson, Chris Weidman Vs Yoel Romero, Rashad Evans Vs Tim Kennedy and Donald Cerrone Vs Kelvin Gastelum.
So far the main event has not been announced for the historic event, which will mark the UFC’s first ever show in NYC after the sport was finally legalized in the state of New York earlier this year.
