Former Legacy FC Boss Mick Maynard Lands UFC Matchmaking Job

The UFC have announced the signing of former Legacy FC President Mick Maynard to help fill the void left by long-time UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, who’s set to depart the company by the end of 2016.

Maynard will serve as the ‘Vice President Of Talent Relations’, where he’ll work alongside the UFC’s other matchmaker, Sean Shelby, who’s been promoted to ‘Senior VP Of talent Relations’.

It’s not clear how they’ll be dividing up the workload however, with the former set-up being that Silva dealt with the divisions from lightweight upwards, while Shelby tackled the lighter divisions.

“Joe Silva’s contributions to the UFC over the last 20 years were huge, and he played a big role in helping make the sport as big as it is today,” UFC President Dana White said in a press release. “He left his mark on this sport and I wish him nothing but success in retirement.

“I’m excited to have Mick on board working alongside Sean. Mick has become one of the most respected people in the fight game and he’s done a great job in finding and developing talent. Sean has been a tremendous asset to the UFC for a long time, and I look forward to working with Sean and Mick in the years to come.”

Maynard formerly owned and ran the respected Legacy FC organization, which has delivered over 60 MMA events since 2009, establishing itself as one of the best regional outfits in the United States.

Coinciding with Maynard taking on the new role at UFC HQ, Legacy FC have announced that they are set to join forces with the RFA promotion in 2017 to form a new entity called ‘Legacy Fighting Alliance,’ with Ed Soares serving as CEO.
