Charles Oliveira showed his BJJ prowess in the opening round of this fight, but it was Ricardo Lamas who would emerged the winner mid-way through the second round after seizing on a guillotine choke.
Round One:
Both men working kicks early. Solid leg kick for Lamas and then a good one to the body.
Lamas with a big takedown in the opening minute. He’s in half guard and lands a big elbow to the head from there. Oliveira tries for a leg lock, but Lamas scrambles out of that and keeps on top.
Oliveira manages to not only get back to his feet, but takes his opponent’s back against the cage. Equally big takedown from Oliveira now.
Half way through the round Lamas gets upright, but Oliveira working a d’arce choke and brings him back down again. Oliveira rolling as he continues to work his submission game, but Lamas escapes.
Oliveira settles for remaining on top in his opponent’s guard. Lamas onto his knees and Oliveira spins around and takes his back.
Body lock in for Oliveira and then works a neck crank. Lamas toughs that out, but Oliveira flattens him out just before the end of the round and sinks in a rear-naked choke. That could have been the end of the fight if there was more time left, but Lamas is able to hang on until the round ends.
Round Two:
Leg kick for Lamas. Now a spinning hook kick that partially lands to the head of his opponent. Body kick for Lamas and then one ot the leg kick. Counter punch from Oliveira.
Oliveira in very nicely on a takedown. He looks immediately for a choke, but Lamas sweeps to get on top. A tangle of bodies here until Lamas secures side control.
Lamas tries to land offense and immediately Oliveira rolls to his knees and then scrambles to end up on top.
Lamas immediately sinks in a guillotine choke though and it’s in tight. Oliveira is unable to escape and reluctantly he’s forced to tap out with 2.13mins of the second round gone!
