Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 98 event in Mexico City the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event battle between Tony Ferguson and Rafael dos Anjos, which went the full 25 minutes.
The former champion got off to a good start, imposing his will in the opening round, but he faded after that as Ferguson began implementing his own pressure game, gaining confidence as he started to piece together effective striking combinations.
Both fighters showed excellent cardio and all-round toughness during the hard-hitting fight which saw them both repeatedly take big punches and kicks, but in the end there was little doubt that Ferguson had done enough overall to earn the unanimous decision victory (48-47 x3).
Ricardo Lamas earned one of the two ‘Performance Of The Night’ awards in an entertaining fight with Charles Oliveira that saw him tap out the Brazilian with a second round guillotine choke after ‘Do Bronx’ left his neck exposed while scrambling to get on top during a competitive ground battle.
Douglas Silva de Andrade also took home a ‘Performance Of The Night’ bonus after TKO’ing Henry Briones with a spinning back in the third round of their preliminary card fight.
