A fight between Rashad Evans and Tim Kennedy might not be taking place at UFC 205 this weekend as was originally planned, but fans won’t have long to wait before they will get the chance to witness this middleweight battle.
The promotion have now confirmed that Evans Vs Kennedy has been moved to UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada on December 10th instead.
The fight was scrapped from the New York show after an irregularity came up during Evans pre-fight MRI scan.
Evans then went on to pass follow-up tests, but the New York State Athletic Commission appeared to err on the side of caution ahead of the first major MMA event in the city since the sport was made legal there, and refused to grant him a license.
So, Evans will now have to wait an extra month to finally make his middleweight debut, which comes off the back of two losses in a row at 205lbs against Ryan Bader and Glover Teixeira.
Kennedy will also have to shake off the disappointment of not getting to fight on the historic card at Madison Square Garden, which had brought him out of a two-year hiatus from the sport.
Evans Vs Kennedy is now expected to feature on the main card of UFC 206, which will be headlined by a light-heavyweight title rematch between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson, while Max Holloway Vs Anthony Pettis will serve as the co-main event.
In some respects that’s a good move as UFC 205 has an embarrassment of riches in the star power department, while UFC 206 was looking a little underwhelming beyond the top two match-ups.
