A little over a year after she was released from the UFC, Angela Hill is set to make a comeback to the Octagon in a short-notice match-up with Jessica Andrade at UFC 207 on December 30th.
Hill initially entered the UFC as a competitor on TUF season 20, despite having only one pro fight to her name, and though she picked up a win in her first fight in the Octagon, she then found herself being thrown to the wolves against two of the newly formed 115lb strawweight divisions top talents, Rose Namajunas and Tecia Torres.
After losing to both, Hill found herself being cut from the promotion, but in some ways that’s been a blessing in disguise as she was quickly picked up by all-female promotion Invicta FC, where she’s had a chance to get more experience under her belt away from the UFC’s intense spotlight.
During that time, the 28 year-old has been able to prove that she is indeed still a genuine prospect as she’s compiled a four-fight winning streak, including claiming Invicta FC’s strawweight title and so far making one successful defense of the belt.
That run of form has been rewarded by the UFC, though it seems that the UFC’s tendency to give her tough fights continues as fighting Andrade on a little over three weeks notice isn’t exactly ideal.
The 25 year-old Andrade initially posted a 4-3 record in the UFC while competing at 135lbs, but since dropping down to 115lbs earlier this year she’s looked better than ever, earning back-to-back victories over Jessica Penne and Joanne Calderwood.
UFC 207 will be headlined by another female fight, with Amanda Nunes looking to defend her bantamweight title for the first time against returning superstar Ronda Rousey, while Dominick Cruz also defends his bantamweight belt against Cody Garbrandt in the co-main event of the evening.
