It seems as if the UFC’s hopes of keeping Junior dos Santos in the headline spot for the UFC Fight Night 105 event in Halifax, Canada on February 19th have been dashed, with the former heavyweight champion confirming he’ll nog longer feature on the card.
“Unfortunately I’m out of that fight card Michael,” JDS Told a fan on Twitter. “Thank you very much for buying your ticket to see me fighting.”
Dos Santos had originally been scheduled to rematch Stefan Struve in the main event of the evening, but the bout fell through after Struve picked up an injury.
That was a couple of weeks ago, and up until this latest message from Dos Santos it had been assumed that the UFC were still working on finding a suitable replacement to keep the Brazilian star on-board.
Instead it seems as if a recently announced middleweight fight between former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks and Hector Lombard could now take the top spot on the card.
Elsewhere, former woman’s strawweight champion Carla Esparza also fights Randa Markos, while Elias Theodorou goes up against Cezar Ferreira.
Still, with only seven fights currently announced for the event there’s still work left to be done to fill out the card, and it remains to be seen if that may yet include a new headliner.
