James Vick earned a big win over Abel Trujillo tonight at UFC Fight Night 104, rocking him with a jumping knee in the third round before finishing him with a d’arce choke.
Round One:
Both men cautious to engage in the opening minute. Vick happy to work at range, while Trujillo is trying to find a way inside, without much success thus far.
Head kick attempt from Vick that’s blocked. Trujillo closes down his opponent and goes in for a takedown and lands it solidly.
Vick with his back against the cage as Trujillo settles into his guard. Vick with a guillotine choke attempt, but eventually lets it go with around 90 seconds of the round remaining.
Vick able to use the cage to stand back up and the two battle for position in the clinch before separating. Side kick upstairs from Vick misses and then tries with another head kick soon after.
Nice body kick from Vick after a couple of punches. Leg kick for Trujillo. Straight punches down the pipe from Vick and Trujillo barrels into a takedown attempt against the cage as the round comes to a close.
Round Two:
Big left hook for Trujillo to star the second. Vick feeling out with kicks. Trujillo again trying to close the distance. Vick with a leg kick.
Overhand right for Trujillo lands audibly, but Vick takes it well. Now a hook lands for him. Vick starts to work the jab, but Trujillo charges forward and presses his opponent against the cage.
Soon after they go back to striking range. side kick attempt from Vick. Trujillo runs forward and lands a punch. Again he does that.
Nice uppercut and a couple of punches from Vick, then a knee. Suprisingly Vick goes for a takedown and gets it. Vick locks up a d’arce choke with plenty of time in the round remaining.
Trujillo doing well to defend it so far. Vick improves his position and continues to work the choke, but finally Trujillo is able to get free.
Vick still on top though and it’s not long before he wraps up the d’arce choke again. Trujillo gets out easier this time though and gets back to his feet just as the round is coming to a close, with Vick trying a spinning kick and Trujillo responding with a punch.
