Dana White took to ESPN’s SportsCenter today, where he revealed that returning superstar Georges St-Pierre’s comeback fight will be against middleweight champion Michael Bisping.
The time and location for the fight have yet to be announced, but the two stars are expected to appear at a press conference on Friday to talk to the media about their upcoming match-up, and it’s believed that they are targeting the second half of the year for their showdown.
The 35 year-old GSP will be returning to action for the first time in over three years, having vacated his title in November 2013 after a split decision win over Johny Hendricks in order to take some time out from the sport.
That means he’ll be returning to the Octagon with his 12-fight winning streak still intact, but this will be his first time competing at middleweight, where Bisping currently rules the roost.
Bisping is currently enjoying the best run of his career at the age of 37, with wins over C.B. Dollaway, Thales Leites and Anderson Silva earning him a short-notice title fight with Luke Rockhold, where he would produce a shock first round KO victory and then go on to successfully defend the belt against his old nemesis Dan Henderson.
Since then Bisping had made it clear that he wanted a big-money fight next, and with GSP being one of the UFC’s biggest ever pay-per-view draws, it appears that he’s got his wish.
