The UFC On FOX 24 fight card on April 15th in Kansas City is filling out nicely with the addition of several big fights in the past few days, including a flyweight title headliner.
Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson will headline the show as he looks for his 10th consecutive title defense against the No.4 ranked Wilson Reis.
You’d have to go back to 2011 to find the last time Johnson lost a fight, and that was against former bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. ‘Mighty Mouse’ dropped down to 125lbs after that, where he has remained unbeaten against the best the flyweight division has to offer.
Now Reis gets a chance to show what he can do after a three-fight winning streak in the division, going 6-2 overall in his UFC run to date, but he’ll head into this fight as a heavy underdog against the dominant champ.
Meanwhile, No.3 ranked middleweight Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza will continue to remain active while waiting on a title shot as he’s been lined up to fight the No.6 ranked Robert Whittaker.
‘Jacare’ has won seven of his eight UFC bouts to date and is coming off impressive wins over Vitor Belfort and Tim Boetsch, but with the top end of the 185lb division currently being held up for the forseeable future while Michael Bisping fights returning superstar GSP, the Brazilian has no option but to keep fighting.
Whittaker has also been putting together a nice six-fight winning streak, defeating the likes of Uriah Hall, Rafael Natal and Derek Brunson along the way, but this will be his biggest challenge in the division so far.
Finally, another significant fight has just been added to the line-up, with Jeremy Stephens attempting to get back to winning ways against the in-form Renato Miocano.
On paper this looks like something of a pick-me-up fight for Stephens, who is coming off a loss and only has two wins in his last six fights.
Miocano shouldn’t be overlooked however, as he’s gone 2-0 in the UFC so far and is unbeaten in his overall pro-career, compiling a 10-0-1 record.
These fights join the previous announced woman’s strawweight encounter between Rose Namajunas and Michele Waterson, which had originally looked set for the main event spot, but will now make way for Johnson Vs Reis.
