Dana White has stated his intention to put together a fight between flyweight kingpin Demetrious Johnson and TJ Dillashaw fight in August, but it appears that the long-time champion has other plans.
Johnson is currently going for his 11th title defense in a row, which would be a new UFC record, and has revealed he still expects to fight current No.3 flyweight contender Ray Borg, aka ‘The Tazmexican Devil’ next.
“Just so the world know I haven’t agreed to anything still waiting on my contract to fight @tazmexufc not @TJDillashaw,” Johnson wrote on Twitter. “If he wants a title shot he can come to flyweight and get a win then get his turn.”
Borg has compiled a 5-2 record in the UFC and is on a two-fight winning streak, having defeated Louis Smolka and Jussier Formiga by unanimous decision in the past six months.
On the other hand, Dillashaw is a former bantamweight champion with a 10-3 UFC record, who is also coming off back-to-back wins against Raphael Assuncao and John Lineker.
There’s no doubt that a fight with Dillashaw would be the bigger draw of the two, and ultimately it’s going to be the UFC who decides who Johnson fights, so it’ll be interesting to see who ‘Mighty Mouse’ does end up fighting.
