There have been rumors of late that legendary UFC fighter Chuck Liddell might be on the verge of a comeback, and ‘The Iceman’ added fuel to the fire this weekend with a picture on social media that suggested he’s targeting a trilogy fight with his old rival Tito Ortiz.
Liddell posted a picture of himself yesterday on Instagram squaring up to Ortiz with the caption, ‘Why not?’
Liddell already hold a KO and TKO victory over Ortiz in the UFC, but they were scheduled to fight for a third time in 2010 after appearing as rival coaches on TUF Season 11.
However, Ortiz had to pull out of the fight due to requiring surgery and Liddell would instead go on to be knocked out by Rich Franklin instead, which led to him retiring.
Ortiz continued fighting and only finally hung up his gloves earlier this year after a final win over Chael Sonnen in the Bellator organization, and the 42-year-old has now made it clear he has no interest on turning back on that decision in order to face his 47-year-old nemesis.
“@Chuckliddell because I don’t need the money. Suck that you need the money. I can lend you some cash if so,” Ortiz responded to Liddell, while also posting, “This is why not,” alongside an old video of an apparently drunk ‘Iceman’ slurring his words during an infamously awkward TV interview.
It’s probably for the best that Ortiz isn’t interested in the fight as truth be told, both of these hall-of-famers are better of staying retired due to the amount of punishment that they’ve taken over the years.
