Following last night’s UFC Fight Night 110 event in Auckland, New Zealand the recipients of the evening’s $50,000 bonus awards were announced.
Earning ‘Fight Of The Night’ honors was the main event heavyweight clash between Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis.
The fight was closely contested in the early rounds, but by late in the third Lewis was visibly starting to slow down, putting his hands on his hips and breathing heavy.
Hunt relentlessly continued marching forward and was rewarded deep into the fourth round when several heavy punches appeared to hurt Lewis and left him bent over with his hands covering his head against the cage absorbing more damage until the referee ended the fight by TKO.
Earlier Ben Nguyen had impressed by turning up the heat early in his fight with Tim Elliott, threatening with kicks and knees before managing to scramble on top after being taken down.
Nguyen then took the craft grappler’s back and sunk in a fight-ending rear-naked choke with just 49 seconds on the clock to earn his ‘Performance Of The Night’ award.
Competition was fierce for the performance bonuses on the night, with several fights ending swiftly on the main card, but Dan Hooker’s stunning knee to the face in the first round against Ross Pearson that sent his gumshield flying and left him splayed out on the canvas definitely stood out from the crowd.
